The Norwegian Mountain Codex

1. Plan your trip and inform others

Make sure that your group is adequate to complete the trip.

Do your research about the terrain.

Arrange rendezvous point if separated.

Leave no trace.

2. Adapt according to ability and conditions

The weather in Norway changes fast. Travelling with others will increase your change of survival. For most of Norway, there are no dangerous animals like wolf or bear. The main cause of incidents and death are overestimates of abilities and ignorance of the Norwegian Mountain Code.

3. Pay Attention to Weather and Avalanche Warning

Always check the weather before you venture out on a trip. Since the weather changes quick, if you see rough weather on the horizon you should start monitor it for further development.

4. Always be prepared for rough weather and frost.

Make sure that you have the proper clothing available in case the weather shifts for the worst. It will often be quite cold when that happens.

5. Bring necessary equipment to save yourself and others.

High-vis vest or headlamp to be easier found.

First aid kit

Always use transmitter/reciever, avanalche probe and shovel at avalance risk areas

Make sure mobile phones have enough power in case of emergancy. However, they might not have coverage at certain areas.

Download and call from the Hjelp 113  app, Search and Rescue will have an immidiate fix on your location.

6. Choose safe routes

Mind the terrain, and avoid traps.

Some paths are formed by free- roaming sheeps/goats, and might lead towards dangerous areas for humans to venture.

Avalanche can be triggered even though they are above you. The force of gravity can quickly make small amount of snow quite dangerous.

7. Use map and compass

Mobile phones uses a different type of Satelite reciever than what´s necessary to get an accurate fix on your location. Knowing how to navigate with a map and compass is essential.

8. Don´t be ashamed to turn around

If the weather shifts you should turn around if you´re not prepared.

If a team member is can´t complete the trip, the group should focus to get them to safety.

Enjoy the hike for the sake of it, not for social media pictures. If you cannot continue, turn around. The Norwegian outdoors is not a walk in a park, and should be treated with respect.

9. Conserve Energy and Seek Shelter

Adjust the pacing to the weakest member of the team. Make sure to seek shelter before it´s too late. Drink frequently, if you are thirst it´s often a bit too late.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
